Microshading & Microblading FAQs
The most common questions about PERMANENT MAKEUP
"What's the difference between microshading & microblading, does it fade, is it safe...?"
1. What is microshading?
Microshading is a cosmetic tattoo technique that uses pixelated shading to create a soft, makeup-like brow. It does not rely on hair strokes.
2. Is microshading an ombré effect?
It can be, but not always.
Microshading may be ombré-style or one consistent color, depending on the technique chosen and discussed during consultation.
3. Is microshading completed in one appointment?
No. Microshading is a two-step process.
The first session lays the foundation; the touch-up perfects the final result.
4.Why does the front of my brow look lighter?
The front (head) of the brow is intentionally created softer for a natural appearance. This area may heal lighter due to circulation and skin regeneration.
5. Does microshading fade during healing?
Yes. All cosmetic tattooing softens and lightens during healing. This is normal and expected.
6.Can microshading be made more solid or darker?
Yes—but only at the touch-up appointment, once the skin has fully healed. Adjustments are not made during the healing phase.
7. Why can’t pigment be added right away if something looks off?
Adding pigment to healing or irritated skin can cause:
-
Poor retention
-
Uneven results
-
Skin damage
Waiting protects both your skin and your final outcome.
8. Is microshading better for sensitive or oily skin?
Microshading is often better suited for oily, mature, or sensitive skin, as it tends to retain pigment more evenly than hair strokes.
9. What if one brow looks different from the other during healing?
This is normal. Brows heal independently and may fade differently. Symmetry is refined at the touch-up, not during healing.
11. What’s the difference between microblading and microshading?
Microblading creates fine hair-like strokes using a manual tool, while microshading deposits pigment as tiny dots for a soft, powdered look. Some clients combine both for a blended result.
Microblading is not offered. Nano Brows a more advanced technique will be coming soon. Sign up for our email newsletter to be alerted.
12. How long do microblading results last?
Results generally last anywhere from about 12–30 months depending on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and aftercare. Microshading tends to hold better on oily skin, while microblading strokes may fade faster on certain skin types.
13. Does microblading hurt?
Most people describe the sensation as mild to moderate — often less uncomfortable than waxing or tweezing — because topical numbing is applied before and during the procedure.
14. What does the microblading healing look like and how long does it take?
Healing typically takes 4–6 weeks. During that time:
-
Color may appear much darker at first
-
Scabbing and flaking may occur
-
Brows may look patchy or light
This is normal — the pigment settles beneath the skin as healing progresses.
15. Why do my brows look different after a few days?
It’s common for microblading pigment to appear darker initially, then fade and soften as the skin heals. Some areas may look patchy or lighter before settling into the final tone.
16. Do I need a touch-up?
Yes — a touch-up 4–8 weeks after the initial session is standard for finalizing shape, color density, and symmetry. This is a normal part of the process and ensures the best long-term result.
17. Can microblading or microshading work for oily skin?
Yes — but microblading strokes may blur faster on oily skin. Microshading or a combo approach is often recommended for oily skin because the pigment tends to hold better.
18. Can I use makeup during healing?
No — avoid makeup on or near the brow area until fully healed to prevent infection and pigment disruption. Most professionals recommend avoiding makeup for at least 7–14 days.
19. Can I exercise or swim after my treatment?
Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy sweating, pools, saunas, steam, and swimming during the initial healing period — usually about 7–14 days — since moisture and bacteria can affect healing and pigment retention.
20. Why do some strokes or shading disappear?
Different techniques heal differently. Fine hair strokes may fade more quickly, especially during scabbing, and the shading portion often stays more visible. This is normal and is corrected at your touch-up session.
